Day 15:Two For the Kilo Mile

Ten runners took advantage of the cool, breezy conditions last night after a sunny, cloudless sky baked everything in sight. Sarvagata Ukrainskyi reached 72.4 miles; just about 20 fast laps in succession seem to be his modus operandi after the sun goes down. He reached 1000 miles just after the midday bell, for the fourth time in as many years. Much later in the evening Yuri Trostenyuk joined the kilo club for his second time in as many years. Three more should join the association tomorrow, including first woman Sarah Barnett. All three women are in the top nine, and all appear fitter and getting ready to collect those laps, the currency of this unique event. Happy running folks.

Day 14: Two Weeks In

The runners have given their all for two weeks, and are hoping that fitness has increased and mileage expanded since their journey began. Sarvagata Ukrainskyi has opened a 40 mile lead on second place with a fine week of 495+ miles, following a first week of 482.3. Sarah Barnett continues to flourish, averaging 63.54 miles a day to lead the three women. Eleven runners are still on pace to finish within 52 days. Two runners will reach 1000 miles by sunday night. Stay tuned.

Day 13: Moving Along

On a breezy warm but not too hot day with lower humidity, our intrepid runners took advantage of favorable running weather to test themselves once more. Six made it past the 60 mile barrier. Sarvagata Ukrainskyi continues to flourish in the late afternoon, evening and final push to midnight. He ran 73.5 miles to lead all competitors- he is overall leadermwith 908.81 miles . The top 12 runners are all still on pace to finish in 52 days- small sample size noted, of course. A big surprise this year is the strong start for Stutisheel Lebedyev. He sits comfortably in third place with 847 miles

Day 12: Strong Sun; Good Running

Nine of the 14 intrepid runners reached past 60 miles today, led once again by Sarvagata Ukrainskyi, who is getting into very good shape. He garnered 73.53 miles on the concrete surface in a blazing sun. Only Yuri Trostenyuk and Stutisheel Lebedyev kept close to the leader during the day before Sarvagata started to turn jogging into serious running as the sun went low in the sky. Sarah Barnett led the ladies once more with 64.75 miles.

Day 11:Every Night and Day

Nine runners rolled past 60 miles as the humidity went up a notch but the temps were still moderate(84ºF) for a late June day. Sarvagata Ukrainskyi continued his splendid journey with 70.9 miles today, making it 5 out of the last 6 days over 70 miles each day. Yuri Trostenyuk and Stutisheel Lebedyev completed the Ukraine log-jam of the top three places with 67.5 miles each. Sarah Barnett cracked the top five with a solid 62.56 miles- she still leads the other two ladies by over 20 miles.

Day 10: Bunched Up On One Side

Twelve of the 14 runners who started the 3100 are on pace to finish after the tenth day of running. Sarvagata Ukrainskyi still leads after hitting 71.3 miles today. He is averaging 69+ miles per day. Sarah Barnett has made it to sixth overall with another solid day of 63.66. Baladev Saraz set a new personal best for 10 days with 645.93 miles and remains in third place overall. Stutisheel Lebedyev continues his upward mobility, landing in fourth place and looking as strong as he ever has. Having moderate temperatures in the morning and evening definitely helps the push for high mileage.

Day 9: Lot of Sun;Lot of Run

Eight runners made it past 60 miles on a day filled with bright sun, low humidity and swirling air about the course. Seven-time finisher Stutisheel Lebedyev from Kiev, Ukraine led the way with 68.05 miles. He is placed in sixth and has been moving quite well for the last 6 days. Sarvagata Ukrainskyi continues to wear the leader’s bib as he and second placer Yuri Trostenyuk both reached 66.4 miles. Sarah Barnett from Adelaide Australia continues to amaze with fast laps and consistent totals. She has an 18 mile lead on second woman Jayasalini Olga Abramovskikh after a solid 64+ mile day.. A few days of warmer weather and rain showers may pass thru on Wednesday but the temperatures overall seem a little below normal for this time of year. Maybe we will get lucky this summer!

Over a week after their start, the top twelve of fourteen runners made it past sixty miles. Sarvagata Ukrainskyi made it to 70.79 miles, his third straight day over 70+. Sarah Barnett moved into sixth overall with another 66.4 mile day. What other experiences await each participant, no one knows. But a good start like the last eight days can have a large impact on fitness and likely ability to finish. We shall see.

Day 7: The Week That Was…

Bright sunny skies, cooler evening temperatures, lower humidity- all this on the first day of summer in New York? You bet. Sarah Barnett moved into seventh place, first woman, with her sparkling 65.3 mile day.The first 12 runners all went past 60 miles today, and all are still on pace to finish after one week of returns. Happy summer, oh residents of the northern hemisphere.
