Day 36: Heat Takes Its Toll

The runners always have to exercise a little caution when confronting high heat and humid conditions. The past few days have been a prime example, as Pranab Vladovic led Asprihanal by a lap (68.05miles to 67.50 miles) today with a wonderful effort in such difficult conditions. Only five runners made it past 60 miles.Suprabha Beckjord went past the 2000 mile mark for the 13th consecutive year!

Petr Turns 30 by Utpal:
. . . To the tiny and tight community, which is the 3100 mile race, Petr turning 30 today, is a special and precious event. Everyone will wish Petr a sincere happy birthday as they arrive. He will not spend this day celebrating. He will do what he has done for the past 35 days, and run his best. The real difference today, is that the good will of brothers, friends, and comrades will be a buoyant and powerful force . . .

Day 35: Five Weeks in The Sun

Asprihanal Aalto ran well despite the difficult heat and humidity today to extend his lead to 127+ miles after five full weeks of running. His stellar 71.89 miles led all runners. Only six made it past 60 miles today as the mercury moved past 96ºF and the heat-humidity index reached triple digits. Mr. Aalto is averaging 70.07 miles per day(112.77km).One more day of the heat wave remains, but it has taken its toll as the group looks a bit weary. The air quality index is also problematic since there are few breezes to be had until the sun goes down. But weather the storms they will, these intrepid runners.

If you have Good Energy

If you have Good Energy

. . . It is a strange, yet wonderful experience, to come back to the race this morning. After being here for the start of the race, for 27 straight days, I had missed the last 7 days while visiting Canada. It feels like I have come home, and yet while everything looks so much the same, so much has changed as well . . .

Day 34: Hot and Sticky Going

The third day of a projected five day heatwave slowed the field, but could not stop them. Pranab Vladovic led the way with 69.14 miles, a solitary lap ahead of leader Asprihanal Aalto(68.60). In all, the first eight runners bested 60 miles again. Two-time finisher Sopan Tsekov from Bulgaria had to withdraw due to medical reasons after accumulating 1783.60 miles in 32 days. The mercury hit 92ºF with nary a breeze, and two more days of intense heat await.

Day 33:Vladovic Works a Win

Pranab Vladovic, a three time finisher of the Self-Transcendence 3100 miler, led the way with 71.344 miles today, two laps better than Asprihanal Aalto(70.24 miles). The top seven runners bested the output of sixty miles as temps climbed into the high eighties. Friday and Saturday will be the next tests as the mercury goes up to 95º.

Day 32: A Little More Heat

Asprihanal Aalto ran 70.24 miles to lead again today as the top nine runners all passed 60 miles.Smarana Puntigam, Petr Spacil and Pranjal Milovnik all went through 2000 miles as the sun heated things up and made for a sticky afternoon. Abichal Watkins had his best day since Day 6 with 62.56 miles. The next three days will touch the nineties- but our intrepid runners will no doubt give their best effort.

Day 31:Top Seven Do Well Again

Asprihanal Aalto led the group of seven men who not only dominate the scoreboard but also consistently put up great days of running. Mr. Aalto ran 70.24 miles, with Pranab Vladovic(69.14), Grahak Cunningham(66.95),Smarana Puntigam(62.56), Petr Spacil(65.30), Pranjal Milovnik(62.01) and Stutisheel Lebedyev (67.50) all running well. The next test will be four days of 88 to 95º weather arriving and a challenge to remain consistent and healthy.

Day 30:Aalto Passes 2100

Asprihanal Aalto ran 70.79 miles today to reach past 2100 miles. Only less than a third of the race remains for him. Eight of the fourteen runners ran past 60 miles, with Pranab again cracking 68+ miles. A brief morning downpour eventually gave way to muggy skies, then clearing winds. A month has passed, and the runners keep churning out the necessary determination to eventually reach the goal.

Day 29:”This Is A Long Race!!!”

Pranab Vladovic copped day honors again with 68.05 miles, gaining about three miles on leader Asprihanal Aalto. Yet, he remains 118 miles behind the Finn. Asprihanal went through the 2000 mile split for the eighth time in his sparkling running life (28 days+08:49:59). Asprihanal remarked ” I realized again today that this is a long race. I hope that I can continue to tell jokes and be cheerful through the long days.” If this race is long for the elite, it must be even longer for the average super-long distance runner. God bless them all.
