Pranab Vladovic finished second in the Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile race, reaching his goal in 45 days+13:49:54. This was the fourth finish for the strong Slovakian born runner, and another personal best by over 24 hours. He remains ranked fourth alltime. His performance is a new national record for Slovakia. A throng of 150 people greeted him along with the Consul General of Slovakia. After a brief ceremony Mr. Vladovic continued on to the 5000 km mark(45+16:31:38). Thursday will see the finish of crowd favorite Grahak Cunningham from Australia, who needs only 91 laps to reach the summit of the 3100 mile peak.

. . . There are songs, and crowds, and celebration. All because he stayed out here for 44 days 2 hours 42 minutes and 15 seconds. Not an eternity but close to it, if you have run 3100 miles over 8 long summers. This mileage, by the way, is about the circumference of the earth. . .

Asprihanal Aalto Wins 3100 Mile Race For Fifth Time

Thirty-seven year old Asprihanal Aalto from Helsinki.Finland won the Twelveth Annual Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile race this morning, covering the 5649 laps of concrete in 44 days+02:42:15. This was the fifth victory and eighth finish for the lanky runner- both records for men in race annals. He held a lead of 120+ miles over second place when crossing the line. Mr Aalto averaged 70.278 miles(113.102 km) per day. A crowd of over 100 well-wishers greeted him and a choir sang songs dedicated to the race and his individual triumph. Next finisher will be Pranab Vladovic on Wednesday evening.

Now it is Time to Run

Now it is Time to Run

. . . Tomorrow Ashprihanal will be the first to finish this long epic journey. As a measure, of the champion he is, he ran over 72 miles yesterday. But he was not alone in posting big miles. Pranab and Grahak also ran more than 70 miles Sunday. The goal is not just in sight, it is just a few steps away.. . .

Day 44: Oh So Close-3087!

Asprihanal Aalto, the leader for six weeks, is only 24 laps(13 miles) away from the goal after running 72.44 miles today, tying Pranab Vladovic for Day leader and placing himself all but in the winners circle. The thin Finn has averaged 70.159 miles(112.91 km) for the first 44 days and should finish around 8:40AM local time tuesday morning. Pranab has run over 70 miles for eight straight days, holding an average of 67.415 miles per day. He should finish wednesday evening.

Day 43: Big Three Dominate

On a day ripe with thunderstorms big and small, the big three made noise of their own with 71+ mile days. Both Asprihanal Aalto and Pranab Vladovic reached 72.44 miles for the day, while Aussie Grahak Cunningham made 71.89 miles despite the series of storms that swept past the area starting after 600am. The last drops of rain fell after 700pm, but nine runners reached sixty miles or better for the day. CBS TV came out to film all day for a piece to be aired next friday. Asprihanal has only 156 laps to go, so barring a flight of speed all day, he should probably make it to the finish line Tuesday morning around 900am. Stay tuned.

Too Good To Be True

Too Good To Be True

. . . Petr tells me that he ran with Ashprihanal last night. He says, “he was not pushing. He will have a great race.” It seems that Ashprihanal wants to run within himself, and wants to enjoy his last couple of hundred miles here. They both felt, that the one who pushes the most, is Pranjal. He is the first to arrive at the race in the morning, and the last to leave at night. Often he will take only one short break all day long.. . .

Give More to Get More

Give More to Get More

. . . Asprihanal, the man arriving here on his bicycle, has run the most miles in one day, since his first day on the 3100 mile course, 41 days ago. He ran just short of 77 miles on Friday. What makes this even more phenomenal is that it is almost 5 miles more per day, than he has run on any days since June 15th, a very long time ago. . . .

Day 42:Six Weeks Past -Aalto in Lead

Asprihanal Aalto moved ever closer to the 3100 mile finish line with another 71.89 mile day-equalled by Pranab Vladovic who has a streak going of six straight days over 70 miles. The star of the moment may have been Stutisheel Lebedyev’s 126 lap, 69.15 mile day- his best distance of the race! It appears likely that Asprihanal will finish on Tuesday morning. Mr Aalto is still averaging over 70 miles per day this year.
